Łasztownia
Łasztownia is an island on the Oder River in central Szczecin. The main objective of the project was to reconnect it with the city and transform it into an attractive, lively urban district. The proposal builds on the area’s cultural and spatial identity while introducing high-quality public spaces, sustainable mobility and architecture focused on livability, biodiversity and long-term resilience.
A continuous green loop links the islands’ squares, recreational areas and key destinations. The new district is conceived as a compact, mixed urban fabric with varied architectural forms and a coherent public realm. The project also proposes new bridge connections and the reuse of the existing expressway overpass as a green public space integrated with an electric rail line connecting Łasztownia to major transport hubs across the city.
The proposal won 3rd Prize in the 2017 “Łasztownia – The New Heart of the City” architectural and urban design competition.
